Some other local weather stations

Durham University Observatory

As far as I'm aware this is the only standard Met Office site in the Tyne & Wear/Durham area for which daily data is freely available.  The record is comprehensive and goes back to 2001.

South Shields Weather

Neil Bradshaw's site is at nearby South Shields and contains a decent quality webcam- very good for checking out what the weather is doing in the South Shields area.  Raw data feeds are available for the site at Weather Underground.

Newton Aycliffe Weather

This site has a comprehensive archive of weather statistics for Newton Aycliffe going back to 2003 and the records are of high quality.  Raw data feeds are available on the site and at Weather Underground.

Ferryhill Weather

This site contains records for Ferryhill and also a large number of other facilities, such as a forum, notes about significant events, and updates to Bonacina's winter snow analysis going back to 1875.

Net Weather

I am a long-standing forecaster on this site (under the name "Thundery wintry showers", inspired by the often-spectacular weather resulting from winter half-year northerly and easterly outbreaks near the east coast of England).  It has a lot of excellent weather information and a friendly weather forum.

UK Met Office

The Met Office is the UK's primary weather company and offers a lot of useful climate data for download and consumption, such as long-term average maps, regional data for various climate variables going back as far as 1914 in some cases, and monthly summaries going back to 2001.  The Hadley Centre site also has a lot of useful information such as the entire Central England Temperature series, developed to 1974 by Gordon Manley and extended to the present since then by the Hadley Centre.

Climate-uk

This is the website of much-respected climatologist and weather historian Philip Eden.  Monthly statistics and summaries, similar to those that he presents in Weather Log in the journal Weather, are available on his site.  Philip also has an alternative continuation of Gordon Manley's Central England Temperature series which he believes offers a better approximation to Manley's original work.  Climate data is available for some stations over at Weather-uk.

Britweather

This is Trevor Harley's weather website, which contains a description of what weather happened in previous years and months going back to 1900, details about his weather station, and views on what the most exciting months were for weather and the most exciting places in Britain for weather.

Booty Meteorological Information Service

This site contains a lot of information about topics connected to weather, and includes an analysis of the weather for past years over the British Isles.
